I apologize--I must have missed the notification of a new post and am just now seeing this. Yes, memory is a dominant theme in Confessions. It will occupy all of book ten. Even very recent research on the role of memory in the National Institute of Health references back to Augustine's groundbreaking reflections on the subject. The attachments are rather technical, but they do suggest Augustine's ongoing influence even in the sciences.
Our own reflections on the role of memory can likewise serve as a powerful tool for introspection.
