Book VII (F.J. Sheed Translation): "For it is buried in the darkness of the forgotten..."
The word "darkness" in this phrase makes me think of past sins which God has forgiven AND forgotten (Hebrews 8:12). Very comforting, and yet WE have difficulty forgiving ourselves and forgetting our bygone iniquities.
