Who would you guess is the most frequently cited ecclesiastical writer in the Catechism of the Catholic Church?
The predictable (and obviously right) answer must be St.Thomas Aquinas. He is cited a whopping 61 times. Most people are surprised to learn then that Augustine actually surpasses Aquinas with 87 citations to his credit. And the most frequently cited work of this most frequently cited author is Confessions.
In fact, the opening of book one of the Confessions has become the key note of Part One of the CCC: The Desire for God.
